Artist Statement Photography
In grade 10 I took photography, and I immediately took to the process of developing my own film and photographs. Unfortunately, the program was cut from my school the next year. While obtaining my BFA, I took photography again in first year. After that year, the non-digital option was cut. Even though the development process that drew me to photography is being abandoned for newer technology, I still find satisfaction in taking pictures.
The same love of new situations that led me to try glassblowing has led me to travel at any opportunity. While travelling, I am always compelled to capture part of my experience with photography.
As a photographer, I am attracted to pattern and repetition. I use muted colours or a selective palate to accentuate the patterns and details I find. I am as fascinated by plants and animals as I am by architecture and man-made environments. I am captivated by arches, light, water, and close shots of plants and animals.
